Epic works brought to life is the way to best describe my art. I want to tell the greatest stories in the biggest ways. I mix a comic book style with a realist study to make the viewer feel like they could walk into the big screen. I love to work with heroic characters and grand adventures. The hardest part is getting the ideas out fast enough.
Since my ideas are so big, I tend to work large as well. Many of my pieces are 16.25in x 25.75in on watercolor paper. I start with a loose pencil sketch, add in mind boggling details with pen and ink and go over the whole piece with washes of gouache. I put down layer upon layer of vibrant color to give all my creations a feeling of mystic awe.
There are a lot of great artists that inspire me all the time. I love the way Bruce Timm can show an entire range of emotions and movement with the simplest of lines. There is the realism of Alex Ross and the fantasies of Frank Frazetta. I of course read comics, and I will always be a DC fan, and what child of the eighties imagination is not fuelled by classic cartoons like He-man, Transformers and of course Batman. I hope that in the end my name can be thought of any time these great stories are brought up, and the stories I have yet to create.
